- Message from the President Hello members,
Since it is often months between General Membership meetings, and since some of you are not able to attend our new monthly informational meetings, the following will provide an overall update on the latest happenings with your Association.
Changes to the Board: Due to the recent departure of Board member Susan Guzman, Eric Rowe was appointed to the Board. Welcome aboard Eric!
SJCPOA Scholarship awarded: The Association's first recipient of the Richard D. Evans Scholarship was Aaron Covarruvias. Congratulations Aaron! His proud mother is member Kim Padilla. Donations: The Association has made several
donations since June; they include $200 to the Hernandez Family of Lathrop
(they have been heavily involved within the community and are staunch law
enforcement supporters in need of support), $200 to
the National Brain Tumor Foundation on behalf of Public Defender Jim
Larson, $150 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in support of member
Erica Chin, $300 to the Brighter Side
of Down Syndrome on behalf of Isabella Christensen in support of member Jim
Christensen, and $300 to the Avila family in support of their loss. Please continue to bring forward any recommendations
for donations.
Town Hall informational: In order to better address members' questions and concerns, we have begun monthly Town Hall informational meetings. Every month we will be at a selected worksite during the lunch hour, so we can respond to members and provide up to date information on current events that affect the Association.
Disability
insurance: Recently, the
Board met with representatives from Myers-Stevens and AFLAC about PORAC rated
Long Term & Short Term disability insurances. Even though neither proved
to be currently feasible, we are exploring other options. Politics: After presentations by candidates and discussion
amongst the membership, the Political Endorsements Subcommittee (Meredith
Hammond, Wendy Correll, Rebekah Graham, Travis
Rowe, and Paul Brennan) met and recommended endorsing the following
candidates. Subsequently, the Board met and approved the recommendation.
Final approval by the membership led to the following endorsements: Carlos Villapudua
for San Joaquin City of State Senator 5th
District – Lois Wolk Below are some important
dates to remember for our Association’s Board election: 9/29/08 – 1st
day to request absentee ballots 10/23/08 – The last day
for absentee ballots to be postmarked and accepted for the 10/28/08 election 10/28/08 – Election Day Thank you for your support, Paul Brennan SJCPOA President |
